My story/progress

It was about 2 years ago that I finally decided I was going to make a change in my life to become fit and start living a healthy lifestyle….actually it was more like “I’m tired of being  fat” and I was finally ready to do something about it!  My daughter had just turned 2 years old and was starting to become very active and I wanted to not only keep up with her instead of having to sit and watch her play, but I also wanted to be a positive role model instead of an obese, unhealthy role model.  Like most people that are unhappy with their weight, I thought about losing weight for a long time, but never really had the desire to put in the work necessary to do it.  Once I finally made the commitment to lose the weight, I knew that I needed to find someone to help me stay focused and keep me accountable.  That day there happened to be a fitness professional (Ryan Ketchum of Force Fitness and Performance in Bloomington, IN) doing a live Q and A on the local newspaper’s website.  I submitted a couple of questions, received answers to them and realized he was exactly what I needed to stay focused and reach my goals!

I met with Ryan for a consultation and signed up for a fitness bootcamp!  Needless to say I was scared to death…not only was I 300+ lbs and extremely out of shape, but more than likely I was going to be the only male at the bootcamp.  I decided I would at least complete the four week bootcamp and ‘make some progress’ and then start doing things on my own after I learned what to do.  I lost 13.5 lbs during the 4 week bootcamp and I never felt out of place being in the bootcamp!  After seeing the results, I decided to sign-up for another bootcamp and then another after that one.  I was hooked. Not only to the great workouts, but the results I was noticing!  In September of 2008, my family moved from Bloomington to Grand Rapids, Michigan. I was glad for the move because my wife and I have always wanted to live in Michigan, but I was concerned about whether or not I could maintain the weight I had already lost.  Never in my mind did I think I could actually keep losing while I was on my own!  However, I talked to Ryan and he really cared about my results and we have worked out a plan for him to write me a new routine every 4 weeks so that I can continue to progress and reach my goals.  I will admit that it has not always been easy, but I’ve surrounded myself with people that support me and my goals and that makes all the difference in the world!

With all the support around me and my determination to lose the fat, I finally reached a point in my fat-loss journey where I can reflect on all of the changes I have made and how far I have come in just two years!  Below are a couple of pictures of me when I was 300+ lbs (I know I was 316 the day I started my first bootcamp.  However I know I was actually heavier than that before the bootcamp, but not sure exactly what because I never wanted a scale to know what my weight really was), and then a picture taken just this week!

To celebrate my anniversary and to help you reach your goals as I work to reach mine, I am opening up a new time slot for bootcamps on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 6 am starting in August.     I am so proud of your transformation! Your determination has been an inspiration. Your desire for continued knowledge in fitness, training, and nutrition, as well as, your desire to see others reach their goals along with you are the reason that we continue to reach our fat-loss goals.
